Description/ Duties: Join Gallery Educators in facilitating one of the Museum’s most popular and longest standing programs. Baby Bloomers is a special time for children 0-3 and their caregivers. Baby Bloomers Volunteers assist in welcoming families with young children as well as presenting age appropriate educational activities for babies and toddlers. Activities include reading stories to groups, participating in sing-a-longs, facilitating learning in museum exhibits and guiding parents and children in our sensory lab or play room.
Requirements:
• General Volunteer orientation and application.
• Attend Museum Education Training.
• Shadow Baby Bloomers Program Coordinator for at least 3 sessions.
Commitment: Volunteers must commit to at least 8 hours per month for 6 months .
Shifts: Monday Mornings 8:30- 12:30
Considerations: Baby Bloomers volunteers must be energetic and able to walk or stand for long periods. Experience and/or interest in early childhood or child development preferred. Volunteers must be willing to perform some minor cleaning duties (sanitizing toys and activity supplies as needed) Comfort in working with adults and children of all ages, race, abilities and background required. Spanish fluency helpful.
How to apply: All new volunteers will need to complete an application, background check and orientation. The application is available at the link below. Orientations are held every first Wednesday of the month from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Museum. If you plan to attend, please contact Jessica Wilson, Volunteer Coordinator at 512-472-2499 x210 or jwilson@austinkids.org so you can be added to the roster. Dinner is served for all orientations so RSVP is required.
