Lois Winslow, Director of Education, Children's Museum of Pittsburgh
For twenty years, Lois Winslow has worked and played at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. As Director of Education, Lois is a passionate spokesperson for informal learning in children’s museums and has shared those views through international, national and regional museum forums that include a formal exchange through the International Partnerships Among Museums and an education study group to Reggio Emilio, Italy. Often presenting at the Association of Children’s Museums’ and Association of Science and Technology museum conferences, Lois has been able to showcase the exciting work the Children’s Museum has accomplished in its 25 years. Most recently her work has brought the Children’s Museum to a state partnership that has been responsible for distributing over 200,000 free books, authors’ visits and a trunk program for Pennsylvania children in Headstart and preschools through the innovative PA One Book Every Young Child program.
Julie Eizenberg, President, Koning Eizenberg Architecture
Julie Eizenberg is a founding Principal of Koning Eizenberg Architecture, established in 1981. She brings design vision and leadership to the firm’s wide range of projects and is recognized for her expertise involving cities, non-profit agencies, educational institutions and private developers. Ms. Eizenberg is an astute observer and institutional iconoclast leading investigations that reshape the way we think about the conventional buildings of everyday living. Under her and partner Hank Koning’s lead, the firm has earned more than 60 awards for their projects, including 25 AIA awards. As a result of her design direction, the firm has won two national competitions – Chicago Public School Northside, and the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, which opened in November 2004 to widespread acclaim. Ms. Eizenberg teaches and lectures around the world, is a frequent advisor to the U.S. Mayor’s Institute on City Design and has recently completed a book titled Architecture Isn’t Just for Special Occasions.
