Description/ Duties: Facilitate spontaneous and planned learning experiences in the museum galleries.  Gallery Programs Facilitators work directly with children and present a variety of science demonstrations, craft activities, experiments, story times and sing-a-longs for children ages 2-11 and families.  Gallery Program volunteers facilitate curriculum prepared by Museum Educators and are invited to create curriculum.  Gallery Programs Facilitators will design activities that fit the Museum’s mission and the goals of.  The Museum Education Team will provide support in the development of curriculum and procurement of supplies and resources.

Training provided/ required: 
• General Volunteer orientation and application.
• Attend Museum Education Volunteer Training.
• Attend Gallery Education Dept. Training.  Last Tuesday of the Month 5:30-7:30pm.
• Attend content area trainings once per month as applicable.
• Serve as a Gallery Programs Assistant for 20 hours per month for 6 months.

Commitment:  At least 20 hours per month for 6 months

Shifts: 10:30-1:30 or 1:30-4:30 Tuesday- Saturday and 12:30-4:30 Sunday

Considerations: Gallery Program Facilitator volunteers must be energetic and able to walk or stand for long periods.  Experience and/or interested in informal learning and science education preferred. Volunteers must be able to work independently as well as with the Education team. Volunteers must be willing to perform some minor cleaning duties (sanitizing toys and activity supplies as needed). Comfort in working with  adults and children of all ages, race, abilities and background required. Spanish fluency helpful.

How to apply: All new volunteers will need to complete an application, background check and orientation. The application is available at the link below. Orientations are held every first Wednesday of the month from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Museum.  If you plan to attend, please contact Jessica Wilson, Volunteer Coordinator at 512-472-2499 x210 or jwilson@austinkids.org so you can be added to the roster. Dinner is served for all orientations so RSVP is required.
