Department: Education/ Exhibits

Description/ Duties: Evaluation Volunteers will assist the Education and Exhibits Departments in gathering and assessing information about the effectiveness of Museum exhibits and programs. Volunteers will make systematic observations, conduct visitor/participant interviews and distribute surveys and questionnaires to both children and adults. Volunteers will also compile evaluation data and prepare it for analysis.
Training provided/ required:
• General Volunteer orientation and application
• Must have previous experience volunteering at ACM or equivalent
• Evaluation Training (provided by ACM)
• Shadow Museum Staff or experienced Evaluation Volunteer for at least 3 shifts.
• Ongoing training maybe required. The evaluation process is always evolving and orientation to new and techniques and tools maybe required.
Commitment: Evaluation Volunteers must commit to at least 10 hours per month for three months.
Shifts: During museum peak hours (Friday 10-5, Sat 10-5, Sunday 12-5, Spring Break, AISD school holidays) Specific hours and shifts are very flexible.
Considerations: Volunteers must be comfortable working independently and possess well developed public contact skills. Comfort in working with adults and children of all ages, race, abilities and background required. Good listening skills, attention to detail and ability to follow through a must. Experience working with Microsoft Excel is preferred. Spanish fluency preferred.
How to apply: All new volunteers will need to complete an application, background check and orientation. The application is available at the link below. Orientations are held every first Wednesday of the month from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Museum. Dinner is served for all orientations so RSVP is required.
