Department Contact: Christina Soontornvat- Public Programs Coordinator and Camp Director
Duties: Camp Assistants work closely with Camp Staff to facilitate both planned and spontaneous learning experiences for camp participants. Specific tasks include: facilitating science demonstrations, assisting children with hands- on activities, guiding learning in the community and Museum exhibits and preparing lesson materials. CIT’s will also be empowered to assist teachers with classroom management and student discipline. Opportunities in half day (4-6 year olds) and full day (7-10 year olds) camp sessions are available.
Requirements/Training:
• General Museum Education Training
• 2 day Camp Volunteer Training OR 2 shadow shifts
Commitment: Camp Assistance must commit to at least 2, consecutive week sessions during summer. 2008 Summer camp season runs June through August.
Shifts: Monday- Friday: Full Day 8:30am- 4:30pm- Half Day- 7:30am- 12:30pm.
How to apply: All new volunteers will need to complete an application, background check and orientation. The application is available at the link below. Orientations are held every first Wednesday of the month from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Museum. If you plan to attend, please contact Jessica Wilson, Volunteer Coordinator at 512-472-2499 x210 or jwilson@austinkids.org so you can be added to the roster. Dinner is served for all orientations so RSVP is required.
