Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (Girl Day) is celebrated internationally during Engineers Week each year. Families and educators are encouraged to join their students at UT for an afternoon of engineering fun. Girl Day gives 1st through 8th grade students a chance to have fun doing grade-specific, hands-on engineering activities, meet students, professors and engineers from industry, and see what it's like to be an engineer.

This year, ACM worked with hundreds of 1st through 8th grade girls during UT's Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day. The girls were challenged to a "rescue mission"- could they build a device out of yarn, pipe cleaner, paperclips and rubber bands that could "rescue" a film canister floating in water? Yes they could - with a record of eight canisters being rescued at once! The purpose of Girl Day was to inspire the love of engineering in girls and kids of all ages. Girls got to see that engineers do cool things, have cool jobs, and how different activities relate to real world engineering.
