Full day camps with daily field trips

Children will look forward to field trips every single day* at exciting places, experiencing innovative hands-on activities, eating lunch in the park, watching an on-topic educational video and playing in the Museum! Our teachers will keep your kids engaged and safe, with a 1:6 ratio, while they explore and learn.
*Field trip destinations listed here are subject to availability. In the event a field trip is cancelled it will be replaced with a similar field trip.
Incredible Creature Features

Explore animal adaptations! Uncover intriguing feats of camouflage, see spectacular predator defenses, and investigate mass extinctions all while learning about your favorite animals, past and present. Daily field trips may include guided fossil hunts, visits to the Austin Nature and Science Center, UT's Brackenridge Field Lab, and the Texas Natural Science Center on the UT campus.
Girls Explore Science

Girls rule the Museum this week! Experience different science careers in our hands-on camp. Daily field trips will take you to meet inspiring role models at UT labs and in the Austin science community. Then back at the Museum we'll try the science out ourselves by making gooey polymers, constructing geodesic gumdrop domes, and designing dare-devil dirigibles!
Cooking and Baking Science

We let the young chefs out of the kitchen and take them on daily field trips to discover the exciting world of food chemistry! Cook your own example of the featured food every day after investigating the science behind it. Field trips may include Amy's Ice Cream, Great Harvest Bread Company, and Whole Foods. Sign up now to add some tasty science to your summer and let us kick it up a notch. Bam!

Engineer It!

Design, invent, and build in this fun camp! Daily field trips will include the University of Texas, where we may visit the Fluid Mechanics lab, the Texas Materials Institute, and the Aerospace Engineering department. At the Museum we’ll design aircraft that can withstand a storm, parachutes that can save an egg’s life, solid bridges made of paper, and much more! We’ll work in teams to take on real-world challenges, all while honing creative problem solving skills.
Keep Summer Weird

Explore the hidden wonders of the city you live in! In this camp we’ll learn about batty adaptations, find out how to creatively conserve energy, and meet some ingenious local artists. Daily field trips will take you to visit UT’s research labs, nearby wilderness preserves, and Austin’s own City Hall. At the Museum we’ll build a solar oven, experiment with echolocation, design shadow puppets, and do all we can to keep the summer weird in a very good way!
Homegrown Science

Whether in the kitchen or out in the backyard, science is all around us! Come see for yourself in this exciting, hands-on camp. Daily field trips will take you to UT research labs and local businesses, where science is done on the big scale. At the Museum we’ll get slimed, use chemistry to launch rockets, examine our DNA, and explore the secret lives of some creepy, crawly, creatures!
Half day camps
Ages 4-6
Looking for a unique and fun learning and socialization experience for your 4-6 year old child? Then you'll love our half day camps! Kids will try experiments, make arts and crafts, learn to work as a team, cooperate and share in an informal, yet structured environment (1:5 ratio). Activities may include Storytime, snack time, arts, science activity stations, music and movement, guided imagining and free play in the Museum.
Young Scientists

Have a blast being a scientist as you make fantastic fizzes and slimy surprises, mix your own colors, build mini rockets, and cook up biotic treats! Shaping young scientific thinkers means teaching kids to ask lots of questions and experiment. You'll love making various sticky slimes, discovering scale, playing with magnets, magnifying glasses and more, while learning about your world.
Cooking with Math

This camp has everything kitchen helpers need to hone their cooking AND math skills! Enjoy cutting, rolling, spreading, stirring, mashing, kneading, mixing, measuring, sorting, shaping, classifying, and more, as you practice being a chef! All recipes are geared to single servings, so every child will make each of the two daily recipes from start to finish!

Dinosaur Mania

This camp is especially designed for the aspiring palentologist with tons of activities, stories, songs, skill-builders, and games centered on the ancient reptiles you love! Make dino arts and crafts, learn the names of favorite dinos, make dino tooth necklaces, play dino concentration, make a hatching dino baby in an egg, excavate toy dinos and more!
Animal Tales

Budding biologists will love learning about their favorite animals through fantastic stories! We’ll read about brave bats, silly salamanders, ingenious insects, and discover adaptations that make these critters so special. We’ll dance and sing, meet live animals, build pretend habitats, role play, and do science and math activities while we investigate a new animal each day.
Out of this World

This camp is perfect for aspiring astronomers and astronauts in the making! We’ll hear stories, perform experiments, paint murals, make mobiles, and sing songs as we explore our moon, the planets, and stars both near and far. We’ll also get into dramatic play as we make a space suit and design a space shuttle to take an imaginary trip to the moon!
Under the Sea
June 30-July 3 (AM; pro-rated price for 4-day week) - FULL
August 4-8 (AM) - FULL
We’ll explore waves, bubbles, properties of water, sand, shells, whales, turtles, and sharks through imaginative math, science, literature, and drama activities. Kids will discover what sinks and floats, learn how sand is made, make shark tooth necklaces, and try out Japanese fish printing with real fish! Dive into the fun!
How to register
Register at Museum Office window during operating hours or call (512) 472-2499 x201 to register with a credit card. VISA, MC, AMEX accepted. Cash and checks are accepted in person. Become a Member at the time of registration and receive the Member price.
After payment is received, a confirmation packet will be mailed with phone numbers, medical release and information forms with program details.
Please note: Payment is required to hold a spot. We regret that we cannot hold any spots, for any length of time, while waiting for a payment to arrive. Spots fill quickly, so registrations that are mailed, emailed, faxed or voice mailed may not be received in time to secure a spot. To secure a spot, call with a credit card during office hours (9am-5pm weekdays) and speak with our Reservationist (x201), or come to the Museum in person with a check or cash.
Cancellation Policy
A non-refundable processing fee of $25 is included in the price of camp tuition. If you withdraw from a camp program 15 or more business days before the start of the camp, you will receive a full refund, minus the $25 processing fee. If you withdraw from a camp program 14 or fewer business days before the start of the camp, for ANY reason, you will receive a partial refund, ONLY if we can fill your spot from the waiting list before the first day of the camp. If we can fill your spot, you will receive a flat refund of $100 for full day camp, and a flat refund of $50 for half day camp.

Deadline is March 30, 2008. Scholarships will be awarded on April 15. Scholarships are funded by the Museum's Open Door initiative.
ACM will continue to offer curb-side pick up as long as the current downtown development will allow, but it cannot be guaranteed.
If minimum enrollments are not met, we reserve the right to cancel or reschedule camps. If this occurs, tuition will be refunded. Activities and field trips mentioned are subject to change without notice.
