ACM Press Releases:

4/20/2007 - Wilder Publication Design Awards

Austin Children's Museum Takes Home the Gold

On April 20, 2007, the Texas Association of Museums announced Austin Children’s Museum as the recipient of two gold Mitchell A. Wilder Publication Design Awards. Out of 287 entries, TAM awarded 43 gold certificates, the highest honor that is awarded. ACM received gold certificates in the Marketing Materials category for the ACM bus wrap, and in the Development Campaign Materials category for the ACM Clubhouse brochure.

Rebecca Ward, ACM’s Graphic Designer, designed the green bus wrap and the ACM Clubhouse brochure. “The concept for the ACM bus wrap was to take the newly painted exterior of the building and put it on wheels,” she said.

The bus wrap promotes both ACM and the Kid Metro exhibit, a child-sized version of a Capital Metro bus. It can be seen on a Capital Metro bus driving around Austin

The Clubhouse brochure defines the purpose of ACM clubhouse, the Museum's annual giving recognition society. The rectangular brochure opens as a booklet, and has a green pocket inside with a response insert that allows prospective Clubhouse members to donate. Ward said, “For the Clubhouse brochure, we wanted a look and feel that was sophisticated, but still reflected the playful attitude of the Austin Children's Museum.”

The Mitchell A. Wilder award is given annually in honor of the founding director of the AmonCarterMuseum in Fort Worth, who was also an advocate of excellence in museum publication. Three jurors allocate awards based on excellence in publication design and media production, and effectiveness in conveying an institution’s program and/or mission through its publication.

The mission of Austin Children's Museum is to create innovative learning experiences for children and families that equip and inspire the next generation of creative problem solvers. Located at the DellDiscoveryCenter downtown at the corner of 2nd Street and Colorado, the Austin Children's Museum is one of the city’s popular cultural attractions with 200,000 visitors annually. The Austin Children's Museum is a non-profit 501c3 organization and all donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
