Austin, Texas (December 8, 2009) – Starting January 13, visitors to Austin Children’s Museum will hear inspiring, real-life stories of dreams come true in the new Sueños realizados bilingual Storytime program, sponsored by Target®. The six-week program, delivered in both English and Spanish, combines festive songs, activities and inspiring stories from books written and illustrated by acclaimed artist Carmen Lomas Garza.
“The families that take part in Sueños realizados (Dreams Come True) Storytime will come away with a model for storytelling in their own home, a greater understanding of Mexican-American culture and inspiration for children to follow their dreams,” said Cybil Guess, Education Manager at ACM.
The Sueños realizados (Dreams Come True) Storytime program takes place in the Museum’s En Mi Familia exhibit, where children and adults can immerse themselves in 3D scenes of Carmen’s artwork while listening to the real-life stories of young Carmen who followed her dreams to become an artist with the support of her family.
Each Sueños realizados (Dreams Come True) Storytime will be presented by trained bilingual ACM Gallery Educators. “It won’t matter if a family’s primary language is English or Spanish,” said Marcela Ramos, Gallery Education Manager at ACM. “They will both benefit from this Storytime experience that builds language and early literacy skills.”
