Christina Soontornvat, ACM Public Programs Coordinator, selected as CAISE Fellow.
Austin, Texas (July 9, 2008) — Christina Soontornvat, Public Programs Coordinatior at Austin Children’s Museum, has been selected by the Center for Advancement of Informal Science Education to be a CAISE Fellow. The CAISE Fellows Program aims to educate and encourage informal science educators from underrepresented groups and regions of the United States. The program allows participants to network with others in their field, while learning about grant proposal writing and administration and the National Science Foundation’s Informal Science Education program.
Soontornvat completed a rigorous application process including essays about informal science education and a sample NSF project proposal. "This is a highly competitive program and takes us a giant leap forward in developing a strong informal science program here at ACM," said Executive Director Mike Nellis. At ACM, Soontornvat develops science content for the gallery exhibits and organizes many successful programs including Spring Break and Summer Camps, Girl Scout events, and Science Sundays.
The National Science Foundation funds research and education in most fields of science and engineering. It provides billions of dollars of support through about 11,000 grants per year to more than 2,000 colleges, universities, K-12 school systems, businesses, research organizations and informal science education organizations such as science centers and museums throughout the United States.
