ACM Press Releases:

5/1/2007 - "Air Fair To Go"

Traveling Exhibit Reaches Thousands

Austin, Texas (May 1, 2007) Four smaller versions of Austin Children’s Museum’s 2005 featured exhibit Air Fair traveled to 16 Austin area locations between May 2006 and April 2007. Named Air Fair To Go, these traveling exhibits reached over 20,000 children who come from families that may not have the resources to visit museums. With the help of a grant from the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation, the exhibits traveled to libraries, recreation centers, and community centers.

Three hands-on components comprised each “mini-exhibit” and made science touchable by allowing visitors to playfully discover the powers and properties of moving air. The exhibit’s components included the Bernoulli Blower, Sail Boats, and the Air Table

Bernoulli Blower
Discover how air pressure keeps a beach ball suspended in mid-air.

Sail Boats
Small plastic boats float on a cushion of air and are propelled by fans down two lanes when kids hold down a button. See who has the fastest boat!

Air Table
Connected nozzles and hoses show how air can push, turn, inflate, and spin objects.

Air Fair To Go is one of the Museum’s community outreach programs that brings hands-on learning experiences to underserved audiences offsite. Other ACM community outreach programs include an After-School Multi-Media Initiative in Austin Public Libraries and the Children’s Hospital Outreach Program.
