POSITION TITLE: GALLERY EDUCATOR
DEPARTMENT: EDUCATION
CLASSIFICATION: ADJUNCT/PART TIME
REPORTS TO: MANAGER ON DUTY
POSITION SUMMARY
Enrich the visitor experience by providing creative educational activities in conjunction with outstanding customer service.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Facilitate both planned and spontaneous informal education experiences that fulfill the mission of the museum
2. Act as a guide for school and group tours
3. Contribute to the development, maintenance and facilitation of gallery demonstrations and story times.
4. Greet and assist visitors in gallery spaces in a friendly manner
5. Stock and maintain exhibit and gallery supplies
6. Daily upkeep of exhibits and facility for safety and cleanliness including periodic checks of public restrooms.
7. Serve on the membership sales team
8. Maintain highest possible standard of customer service
9. Maintain current knowledge of museum programs, exhibits, events and offerings
10. Attend monthly meetings and Education Department trainings
11. Assist with educational programs- both at the museum and offsite
12. Work a flexible schedule, including some weekends, holidays, and special events
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Ability to engage with children and adults in an energetic, friendly, positive, and professional manner
• Ability to react positively to rapidly changing circumstances
• Theatrical experience a plus as well as other creative skills such as: singing, musical skills, storytelling, puppetry, etc.
• Teaching/education background or experience a plus
• Experience working with children and families
• Comfortable leading presentations and role playing in a group setting
• Strong customer service skills
• Fluency in Spanish desirable
• Ability to work with staff and public from diverse backgrounds
• Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time
